The International
Hyperbaric Medical Association (IHMA) is a society for medical
professionals and persons who wish to be affiliated with
hyperbaric medicine.
The Association's
mission is to improve public health by: implementing high
ethical and scientific standards for hyperbaric medicine;
promoting sound hyperbaric research and treatment protocols;
educating the medical community, the general public, decision
makers and policy experts about the benefits of hyperbaric
medicine and adjunctive therapies; and working to make
hyperbaric medicine more universally available and affordable.
The IHMA represents physicians, medical professionals and
consumers in affairs related to insurance company and government
health-care policies related to hyperbaric medicine.
The International
Hyperbaric Medical Association Foundation (IHMA FND) was
established to improve public health by disseminating scientific
knowledge, promoting, sponsoring, and conducting research into
hyperbaric medicine and adjunctive therapies, educating the
medical community and the general public about the benefits of
hyperbaric medicine and related therapies, educating and
training medical professionals, and assisting individuals in
obtaining treatment.
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the International Hyperbaric Medical
Association to make available, in every hospital and clinic in
the nation, hyperbaric medical treatments for each and every
human malady that oxygen can help heal.
By submitting diabetic foot wounds to Medicare for a new
national coverage determination in 2001, our organization
effectively doubled the number of hyperbaric centers by 2011.
Soon we expect additional indications to triple the treatment
berth capacity in the nation and expect half of all hospitals to
have hyperbaric centers over the next 10 years. IHMA and
IHMF's
policies, practices and scientific proofing of HBOT treatment
will be key to causing these changes to happen.
